Hello, we are Kimurantti, a Finnish folk dance group consisting 15 dancers, which of four are males and
11 are females. The group was founded in 2005 and it operates under the youth association Rajan
Nuoret. The director of the group since is Mrs. Merja Skyttä. 


Kimurantti comes from the city of Lappeenranta, which lies near to the Russian border and about 220 km
NE from Helsinki, the capital of Finland. Lappeenranta is located in South Karelian region and on the
shore of the biggest lake in Finland, Lake Saimaa. The group has deep roots in traditional Karelian folk
dance culture and most of their dances are based on that heritage. In addition to traditional dances,
Kimurantti has choreographies with more modern style inp the repertoire.

Kimurantti participates in folk dance and music festivals all around Finland. The group takes part in
national folk dance classifications every two years. So far the group has participated six times and
ranked among the top three every time. Most recently, in spring 2019, Kimurantti reached national
championship. Besides participating folk dance classifications, Kimurantti has also participated in other
dance competitions, which are open for various dance styles. Kimurantti has travelled abroad to different
dance festivals and events. So far they have visited Norway (2008), Denmark (2011), Turkey (2012),
USA (2016) and Bulgaria (2018). Most recently Kimurantti participated international folk dance festival in
Guam in December 2018.
